This coin was minted between 310-303 B.C. and is thus an ancient 2300 years old. Made from an ancient bronze alloy. The coin is extremely fine grade and shows amazing details.
It depicts the forepart of a griffin (Gryphon) with a sturgeon underneath, surrounded by the Greek letters Π A N.
The reverse shows the bearded face of Pan (a woodland spirit or satyr).
The Gryphon was a mythological beast which possessed the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. The Gryphon was a complex creature; a lover and thief of gold and jewels, but also a trusted guardian and guardian of treasures. This creature drew the chariots of the gods, represented the glory of the sun, and possessed great magical powers.
The coin has a nicely aged chocolate colored patina and is almost perfectly round measuring 21mm in diameter. It is authentic, as all of my coins are and was purchased from a trusted and reliable source. This coin is NOT a replica, but a real ancient artifact.
The coin is safely held by a four prong setting, made from sterling silver. Matte finished surface. Bail diameter is 5mm.
