This coin was minted in Japan during the Meiji period 1868-1869. Measuring 20 x 12 mm (0.78 x 0.47 inches), weighing 3.07 grams. Made from Electrum alloy with 22.3% gold and 77.7% silver content. Extremely fine condition.
There are 2 famous rectangular Japanese Electrum coins: Nibu-kin (larger) and Nishu-kin (smaller). This here is the larger one.
Obverse: 2 stylized paulownia flowers, mon crests divided by japaneses character denomination, upper crest within border.
Reverse: sylized character design with meji mark at top, pellet outer border
Set in a handmade sterling silver setting with polished surface. The bail will accommodate chains up to 3.5 mm in diameter.
