This coin was minted between 1272-1307 under King Edward I of England (also known as Edward Longshanks and Hammer of the Scots) in London. The obverse depicts the crowned bust of Edward I centered. Surrounded by + ЄDW R’ ANGL’ DNS HYB (Edward King of England Lord of Ireland).
The Reverse depicts a Long cross with pellets. Surrounded by the legend CIVI TAS LON DON (City of London).
It's value was that of a Denier or Silver Penny.
Edward I joined the Ninth crusade in 1270 and would be crowned king upon his return. He reformed royal administration and common law and established the English parliament. In contrast Edward I invaded Wales and Scotland among others, which led to the First Scottish War of Independence.
The coin itself is made from silver, 19mm in diameter. Very fine coin condition with crisp, detailed depictions.
