This coin was minted between 450-300 B.C. in  Apollonia Pontica and is thus about 2400 years old. Made from solid silver, 13.5 mm in diameter. Extremely Fine to Very Fine grade with amazing details.

On the obverse of this ancient coin is a fearsome gorgon, it's hair a mass of snakes, with extended tongue. As terrifying as this image is, these coins were carried by sailors who believed that the horrific visage would ward off evil and protect them on their travels. 
Struck in the ancient colony of Apollonia Pontica, this silver Drachm also displays an anchor on the reverse—a symbol of the town’s prosperous seaport economy. Flanked by A for "Apollonia" and a crawfish. Apollonia Pontica is known today as the city of Sozopol.

The coin is safely held by a bezel setting, made from solid 14K yellow gold with a polished surface. The bail accommodates chains up to 4 mm in diameter.
