This coin was minted under Prince William of Villehardouin (Guillaume I de Villehardouin), between 1245-1278. Minted in Glarentza/ Frankish Principality of Achaea (Frankish Greece). The obverse depicts the Knights Templar cross, surrounded by "+G PRINCEPS". The reverse shows a Castle tournois, surmounted by cross and surrounded by "CLARENTIA". Made from an ancient silver alloy, 18.5 x 17 mm in diameter and with the original dark patina that built up over the centuries. Very fine VF condition.
The bail accommodates chains up to 3.5mm in diameter.
