This beautifully hand struck coin depicts Taras, Son of Poseidon, riding on a dolphins back. Minted in the 3rd century BC this coin is about 2300 years old, and being made from the finest Greek silver, it lasted during the centuries. Approx. 20.5mm (0.8 inches) in diameter, the coin weighs 7.32 grams. Fine condition. Didrachm (Nomos) denomination.

The reverse of this coin shows a naked boy on horseback. The city of Taras was well known for the many equestrian athletic events held there.

The coin is safely held by a thick 4-prong setting, made from 14k yellow gold, with a polished finish. The bails will accommodate chains up to 3.5mm in diameter.
