Minted 1621-1665 from silver in a Spanish colony in South America, Philip IV period. Handsomely crude silver treasure (cob) coin. Fine condition with a well struck cross on one side. The Coat of Arms on the other side is only faintly visible (corroded away after prolonged time in salt water). 2 Reales denomination, measuring 21x21x1.5mm, and weighing 6.24 grams. Clipped coin.

Safely held by a thick & robust 4-prong sterling silver setting. Bail opening is 4.5mm. Scratched matte surface finish.

"Cob" coins are the original "treasure coins." Struck and trimmed by hand in the 1500s through 1700s at Spanish mints in Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Bolivia (among others), silver and gold cobs are crude, nearly all with a cross as the central feature on one side and either a coat-of-arms (shield) or "pillars and waves" on the other side. Size and shape were immaterial, which means that most cobs are far from round or uniform in thickness. Cobs were generally accepted as good currency all around the world.

This coin is NOT a replica, but a real ancient artifact. It is authentic, as all of our coins are and was purchased from a trusted and reliable source. You will receive a Certificate of Authenticity.
